Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A fresh crisis has struck Bowbazar, Kolkata, due to ongoing metro construction work. Water started leaking from beneath Durga Pituri Lane, creating panic among the local residents, many of whom still recall the previous issues linked to metro construction in the area. As a precaution, **52 residents from 11 homes** were evacuated and temporarily housed in hotels.
Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited (KMRCL) officials swiftly arrived at the scene, only to be met with protests from residents, some of whom entered **Central Metro Station** and staged a sit-in, shouting slogans such as *"This cannot go on!"*. The situation escalated into a heated argument between officials and the locals.
The incident comes on the heels of similar issues in the past when cracks and leakages led to evacuations and subsequent financial compensation for the affected residents. According to KMRCL, the situation will be under observation for the next 48 hours, but the officials have assured the public that this crisis is not as severe as previous incidents.
The residents remain fearful, and their anger at repeated disruptions to their lives has once again brought the metro construction project under public scrutiny.
